WHAT LIES BENEATH.
We are told life began in the oceans until some exploratory frog or insect-like ancestor decided to try its propulsion mechanism on solid ground. There is even some suggestion that we homo sapiens evolved from a type of swimming ape. What ever our origins, terrestrial humans have usually found the ocean to be off limits until diving and snorkelling became an option in the mid 20th century.
Here is a selection of what our curiosity found in the waters off Amed in north east Bali. In some of the photos you can see a rusty metallic structure. It is the remains of a Japanese trawler that ran aground on the shore many decades ago. But one of the pictures dates them to a much more contemporary phenomenon- a young diver taking an underwater selfie next to the wreck.
